Event Rules 

9U & 10U: 

  • Ball Size: 4
  • Game Format: 7 v 7 (6 field players and 1 goalkeeper)
  • Goalkeeper: Yes
  • Referee: One Center Referee
  • Game Duration: Two 25 minute halves (no added time)
  • Game Breaks: 5 minute halftime 
  • Offsides: None 
  • Heading : None 
  • Build Out Line: Yes
  • Punting: Punting or drop kicking the ball is not allowed.
  • Recommended Roster Size: 12-14 


9U & 10U Rules and Information

  • Throw-Ins: Players are allowed a second chance if there is a violation on the first throw-in attempt. The foul should be explained to the player prior to making a second attempt. The ball goes to the opposing team if there is a foul on the second attempt.
  • Goal Kicks: If the team attempting to score a goal kicks the ball over the goal line outside the goal posts, the opposing team puts the ball back into play with a goal kick. 
  • Substitutions: At any time with the permission of the referee.
  • Start of Play: Kick offs are used at the beginning of each half and after each goal. 
  • Corner Kick: Opponents must be eight yards away from the ball until the ball is kicked.
  • Free Kicks: All free kicks are awarded for all major fouls. 
  • Slide Tackles: Not allowed.
  • Heading: Not allowed. Whenever the ball strikes a player in the head, play is stopped. The proper restart depends upon whether the player deliberately played the ball with his or her head. If deliberate, the proper restart is an indirect free kick for the opposing team. If this occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred. If the play by the head is deemed inadvertent, then the proper restart is a dropped ball.
  • Goalkeepers: Goalkeepers are to wear colored jerseys which distinguish them from the players and referees.
  • Punting: Punting or drop kicking the ball is not allowed.
